Somewhere now realize history

The first new music from the band since 2012

Green Day have released their new album ‘Revolution Radio’. Stream it online below via Apple Music and Spotify.

Green Day fans have given their verdict on the band’s new single.

Titled ‘Somewhere now’, the song was released today and is the first official music from the Californian punk band since 2012’s ‘Uno!’, ‘Dos!’ and ‘TrĂ©!’ album trilogy. The three-piece did release a Christmas single last December.

Fans have reacted to the new single, describing the track as being “back to what they do best” with others claiming it to be “garbage”, with another saying that the band “lack lyrical content”.

The record – the group’s 12th to date – had been preceded by its title track, lead single ‘Bang Bang’ and the song ‘Still Breathing’.

The tracklisting is:

‘Somewhere Now’
‘Bang Bang’
‘Revolution Radio’
‘Say Goodbye’
‘Outlaws’
‘Bouncing Off the Wall’
‘Still Breathing’
‘Youngblood’
‘Too Dumb to Die’
‘Troubled Times’
‘Forever Now’
‘Ordinary World’

Last year, Armstrong spoke about his plans for the new Green Day album after the band were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Singer Billie Joe Armstrong had previously said ‘Revolution Radio’ was inspired by their anger at the state of America, and that the rise of Donald Trump since it was completed scared them.

Armstrong told Kerrang! in August:” “The worst problem I see about Trump is who his followers are. “I actually feel bad for them, because they’re poor, working-class people who can’t get a leg up. They’re pissed off and he’s preyed on their anger. He just said: ‘You have no options and I’m the only one, and I’m going to take care of it myself.’ I mean, that’s fucking Hitler, man.”

Armstrong had also said that the Black Lives Matter movement had inspired the trio for their first album since the ‘Uno!’, ‘Dos!’, ‘Tre!’ trilogy in 2012, since when Armstrong has been rehab, which also inspired songs on ‘Revolution Radio’.

“There’s definitely a great spirit going on,” he said. “We’ve always been pretty charged up. Before we found any of this out, I had already written a few songs and everybody was really excited by them. And then we heard about [being inducted into the Rock And Roll] Hall Of Fame, and we were just blown away. Yeah, I mean, we’re going to take our time.”

He added: “We’re not going to try and pull off some, like, victory lap over this because I definitely want the music to come from a real place and be inspired, not just because we got honoured or anything like that, but because we’re honoring music. We want to work on them, and we want to make a great album.”

“London in the summer, us and tens of thousands of fans having the biggest party in one of the world’s most legendary venues,” said Armstrong. “We have the best year to look forward to and this has just made it extra special.”

Green Day will headline British Summer Time Festival at Hyde Park in London on Saturday July 1. A full line-up of support acts is yet to be announced. Tickets are on general sale from 9am today (October 7).

Somewhere Now Lyrics: I'm running late to somewhere now I don't want to be Where the future and promises ain't what it used to be I never wanted to compromise and bargain with my soul How did life on the wild side ever get so dull?
